His Majesty
His Majesty
$800.00

One of a series of contemporary bird paintings, “His Majesty” represents a departure from my usual highly realistic renderings. He struts forth showing off his “robes” robes that have hints of violet and purple in them. The background has an abstract feel and introduces intense color to offset the bird.

This painting is the first of a new series featuring horses in a contemporary style. It’s a bit of a departure for me as its style is somewhat contemporary and has elements of abstraction in it. I felt that the energy of this subject deserved a different approach and I’m quite happy with the outcome.

My first subjects when I was ten were horses. I loved to ride them and draw them. I was obsessed by them. What is strange is that when I actually started taking lessons, I painted every other subject but not horses. This painting is the second in a new series. I think it took me 62 years to develop the technique that best describes them for me.

This painting of an Egret in flight over wetlands was inspired by a poem by Mary Oliver. Excerpts from the poem are inscribed on the edges of the painting. The colors bring the scene to life.

This painting does not require framing as it stands out from the wall to create a shadow box effect.

Greek mythology tells the story of how Zeus transformed himself in order to court and mate the beautiful human woman Leda. There are many stories about their offspring but one says that Helen of Troy was the result of their mating.
