Susan Martin Spar was born in Yonkers, New York, a stone's throw from the larger city of New York. Susan's strongest influence was the  many Sunday afternoons spent with family at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Met has one of the largest collections of Dutch paintings west of Holland and they continue to mold the general direction of Susan's work in the present.

Although Susan's style continues to change and grow, she paints primarily in a classical style reminiscent of the old masters. This influence is especially prominent in her still life work  and daily paintings. She is accomplished in both oil and pastel and has won numerous awards for her work in both mediums. Susan's paintings reside in both public and private collections.

in both juried and open exhibitions winning numerous awards for both her pastels and oils. Her work hangs in both private and public collections throughout the U.S. including the Heritage Park Museum in Corona, CA and the Millard Sheets Foundation in Pomona, CA.
